I had a question to pose to the club before I become a dues paying member.
What is the club proactively doing to acquire or secure land access?
The opportunities to overland and/or ORV in Kansas are pathetic enough as it is. The good places that we DO have seem to be disappearing.
1. Soloschied Rd now has gates at both ends, and the Sheriff's map doesn't show it as a legal road any longer. This was one of the better 4x4 roads we had with multiple creek crossings. What happened? Why was the county allowed to abandon the road? What must be done to re-establish its legal road status?
2. Trail Drive Rd off of Prairie View...there are gates preventing access to the no maintenance section, yet this is still a legal road. Has the club brought this up to the county or the sheriff?
3. On the scenic drive this year, there was a rudimentary gate at the south end of Dawson's Hill Rd. There's also a gate at the north end, but I've never encountered it closed. I fear losing the best road we have.
4. Does the club work with land owners for any access?
I know the club adopts trails at the ORV parks, but what about the no maintenance roads that we are privileged to have?

Currently, most of the club’s activities in this regard are focused on maintaining good relationships with owners and operators of established off-road areas and supporting their efforts, versus directly lobbying with local government or landowners. That being said though, I believe in 2016 we will take a closer look at what we can do to protect what we do have and encourage more widespread support of offloading and access to areas for same. We really have yet to test the membership’s appetite to become more proactive; time will tell. What I anticipate for the coming year is a moderate increase in activity in this area. You’re welcome to attend any regularly scheduled meeting and gauge if you think your interests mesh with those of the group. I will also take your above post to the FHJC yearly planning meeting to help with ideas for 2016 and beyond in reference possibly adopting areas along or scenic route and other areas.
